We've been painting and decorating in Central London for more than 15 years, with literally hundreds of loyal customers throughout Westminster, Marylebone, the West End and through to the City.
If you'd like to hear a personal recommendation from one of them we'll be happy to arrange it.
We've built our reputation on top quality work and reliable service at a competitive price. As the owner of the business I pride myself on keeping our promises.
Our workmen are competent, trustworthy and reliable and have somewhere over 130 years of experience in the trade between them.
They can take care of minor plastering, carpentry and electrical work if that's needed, and they will certainly leave you with a top quality finish.
If you are thinking about having some work done, please call Holly (my better half) at our office in Putney. She will arrange for a quotation visit when it suits you.
We answer the phone in office hours. If you want to reach us evenings or weekends please leave a phone message, or click the button below and we will get back to you.
Kind regards,
Geoff Parvin
Choosing the Right Colours for Central London
First things first: the colours. Where an all-white interior may work well in on of the spacious Chelsea townhouses, if you’re living in a smaller flat or a period property with intricate features you will probably need something completely different. Whilst pastels can give an impression of space and airiness, richer or bolder colours can add a splash of sophistication or warmth.
As an example, a deep, velvety blue or a luxurious emerald green accent wall can create a unique feature in a Georgian terrace in Bloomsbury with those lovely sash windows and high ceilings space that feels uniquely yours.
The Perils of Central London’s Weather
Ah yes, our unpredictable good old British weather. But fear not! Choosing the right exterior paint can help your property weather the elements and keep your property looking its best, rain or shine.
I remember working on a beautiful townhouse where the client insisted on using a specific shade of pastel pink for the façade. Now, pastels can be tricky—especially with the pollution and grime Central London is known for—but with the right preparation and a quality, weather-resistant paint, we managed to create something that’s still the talk of the street years later.
Working with Central London’s Unique Architecture
One of the joys (and challenges) of working in Central London is the sheer variety of architectural styles. You only have to look around to spot classic Victorian and Edwardian homes, Art Deco gems, and modern minimalist flats all within a stone’s throw of each other. And each type requires a different approach when it comes to decorating; each type will receive a slightly different treatment.
Take, for example, the beautiful Art Deco apartments scattered across areas like Mayfair and Pimlico. The clean lines and geometric shapes of these buildings are a perfect canvass for bold, contrasting colours and sharp finishes. Whereas a Victorian terrace in the midst of Westminster might best suit a more traditional palette in deference to the era.
DIY vs. Hiring a Professional
You may be tempted to just grab brushes and roller and just do it yourself. And it’s true that there’s a lot of satisfaction in admiring a project that you’ve done with your own two hands. But, and this is a big but, Central London properties have different quirks. Uneven walls, intricate cornicing, or even just the sheer height of some of these ceilings can inject a degree of difficulty, so things are not always as straightforward as they seem at first glance.
Then there are the logistics. Between the parking restrictions, congestion charges, and the seemingly endless maze of one-way streets, just getting your materials to the site can be a bit of a headache. Sometimes it’s worth bringing in the professionals—like GD Parvin—to save you time, stress, and possibly stave away a few grey hairs.
Adding the Finishing Touches
Once the paint’s dry, it’s time for the finishing touches. There is no shortage of places to find unique furnishings and accessories to complement your freshly decorated Central London space. It’s definitely worth browsing the eclectic markets of Camden or the exclusive of Knightsbridge boutiques, there’s something for every taste and budget.
Remember, it’s the little details that make a house a home. Whether it’s a statement piece of art, a quirky light fixture, or just a well-placed houseplant, these finishing touches can bring your space to life.
A Quick Word on Budgeting
When it comes to budgeting, it’s all too easy to let a project run away with itself, so it’s important to stick to a clear plan. Don’t compromising on quality or cut corners because this can result in disappointment or dissatisfaction with the finished job. Instead, make savvy choices with your spending. You don’t always need a full-scale renovation; often, a fresh coat of paint and a bit of elbow grease can result in a miraculous change without costing a fortune.
